Severe thunderstorms snarled the commute home for drivers in the Twin Cities. The heavy rain kept first responders busy after a wreck involving a sheriff’s patrol car.

Traffic jams, stalled cars, and blacked out traffic lights on Louisville Avenue were just a slice of what drivers had ahead of them Monday night.

“Especially the garden district, all the roads were flooded. I had to come down the major roads to get gas,” said Harold Barmore, who lives in north Monroe.

“It’s raining cats and dogs,” said Lakeisha Baker. “Flooding!”

Monroe police responded to an accident involving a Ouachita Parish sheriff’s cruiser just before 7 p.m. Monday night, where one man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident happened on the corner of Jackson Street and Hippolyte.

Monroe fire officials report no downed power lines, and said that power was restored to the traffic lights.

Cameras were rolling when Monroe police officers blocked off portions of Lea Joyner to move drivers away from high water.

Official reports confirm that a possible tornado touched down in Winn Parish this afternoon, which destroyed three homes on the same street.

The Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office says the tornado affected three homes on Gum Springs Road in Atlanta, a community 20 miles away from Winnfield.
