BATON ROUGE - Speaker of the House Chuck Kleckley, R-Lake Charles, sent a letter to Governor Bobby Jindal's Chief of Staff today asking for the governor's tax reform plan to be delivered to the House of Representatives by March 15.

Kleckley asked the administration to provide their proposals for reforming the state's tax structure, so the House Ways and Means committee can begin a series of hearings on the topic.

"We've had a lot of discussion about the concepts, including the elimination of personal income and corporate taxes and increased sales taxes; now it's time to get the final plan," said Kleckley, "The House of Representatives needs to start hearings on this extremely important subject. The public needs time to see and hear the details to provide necessary feedback to their representatives."

Representative Joel Robideaux, R-Lafayette, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has agreed to call the first meeting to review the proposals on March 19.

"We need to begin an informed debate," Robideaux said, "I'm sure the House Members are anxious to hear the details, and I know the public wants us to be able to discuss and debate them fully and openly with sufficient time."
